Stoops Says It’s Time for a National Title

Head Coach Bob Stoops told those attending a Sooner Caravan event last night at the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum that it was time for OU to win a national championship, the Norman Transcript reports.

“We have high expectations, and I don’t shy away from them,” Stoops told a packed auditorium of Sooner Club members. “My feeling is, it is about time. We need to win one (national championship).”

The thunderous applause “Stoops received after making the comments showed what fans thought of the Sooners’ confident attitude heading into the season.”

Stoops isn’t worried “about the internal expectations putting more pressure on a team that could very well start the season ranked No. 1 in both major polls.”

“I’m not putting any more pressure on us. I love our team. They’ve had a great attitude. They’ve worked hard,” he said. “I expect us to be really good in all areas.”

“You always have to overcome a few things and we should. Hopefully, we’ll get a little luck and stay healthy, get a few bounces. If we do, hey, like I said: It’s about time.”
