Tulsa Press Conference Notes

Head Coach Bob Stoops met with the media today as the team prepares to open the season at home against Tulsa on Saturday. Full video, per the Oklahoman, is provided below in three parts.

A few notes:

  • Linebacker Travis Lewis is still in a cast (broken bone in foot) and has not been evaluated by the training staff yet as to what kind of progress he is making.
  • Stoops confirmed that the team will honor Austin Box by having a different player wear #12 each week. The team will choose who wears the jersey on Fridays. Travis Lewis is in charge of the process and is being assisted by Landry Jones.
  • Running backs Dominique Whaley, Roy Finch, Brandon Williams and Jonathan Miller are all candidates to see time on kickoff returns. Brennan Clay was not mentioned by Stoops but he is currently listed as a returner on the depth chart. Trey Franks was the only wide receiver mentioned as a possibility. Finch has also been getting some time as a punt returner.
  • Offensive lineman Jarvis Jones (knee) is ahead of schedule. He’s running and training right now, but no specific return date has been targeted yet.
  • As Stoops indicated in an interview earlier this month, he said today that he’d prefer a twelve-team league with a conference championship game as opposed to ten.
  • No news on Ronnell Lewis’ eligibility.
