- According to the Oklahoman, starting right tackle Daryl Williams “has been limited in practice this week after suffering a high ankle sprain against Tulsa.” He says he’s “not sure right now” if he’ll play against Florida State on Saturday. Lane Johnson, who saw significant playing time against Tulsa, would start in his place.
- OU will be bringing a total of five kickers with them to Tallahassee. Tress Way, as always, will handle punting duties. Patrick O'Hara will be kicking off. As for field goals, Coach Stoops said at his press conference today that Jimmy Stevens would handle those that are short-range, while Michael Hunnicutt will take the intermediate and long-range tries. Stoops also touted freshman walk-on kicker Eric Hosek and said he would be traveling with the team. He’s not supposed to kick any field goals this week, but Stoops indicated that he could see the field this season if Stevens and Hunnicutt struggle.
- Linebacker Travis Lewis won’t play against Florida State as previously reported. He will be evaluated again next week. ESPN’s Jake Trotter reports that he “suited out today but didn’t do much in practice.” Stoops didn’t sound overly optimistic today about him playing next week against Missouri either. A more likely return date is probably after that against Ball State before the Sooners face Texas.
- Coaches haven’t decided who will start this week at running back. Regardless, Dominique Whaley, Brennan Clay and Roy Finch will all get carries. Stoops said at his press conference today that the staff has been/is continuing to prepare freshman Brandon Williams to play. One assumes that, given his fumble problems before the season started, we won’t see him until home games against Missouri or, perhaps more likely, Ball State.
- Offensive tackle Jarvis Jones continues to progress well according to Coach Stoops. He may even return to practice next week.
