Junior safety Javon Harris “has been named the Football Writers Association of America/Bronko Nagurski National Defensive Player of the Week for games of the weekend of Sept. 17,” according to an official release.
“Harris, a 5-11, 207-pound junior from Lawton, Okla., intercepted two passes in top-ranked Oklahoma's 23-13 victory at No. 5 Florida State. His first interception return of 69 yards set up an Oklahoma field goal. His second interception, with 5:34 remaining in the game, assured the Sooners of the victory. Harris also had three unassisted tackles and one pass break up.”
Harris “will be added to the 2011 Bronko Nagurski Trophy Watch List.” That award is given annually to the best defensive player in college football.
