Backup Texas Safety Out Indefinitely

Texas senior safety Christian Scott “is out indefinitely with a right wrist injury,” the Associated Press reports.

“Texas athletic trainer Kenny Boyd says Scott was hurt in Saturday’s win over Iowa State. Boyd says Scott will continue to be evaluated but is out indefinitely.”

As the Austin American-Statesman notes, depth at the safety position is now an issue for the Longhorns:

“Without Scott, who was suspended after being charged with misdemeanor assault, the Longhorns’ have no experienced depth at safety since Nolan Brewster gave up football last week because of a history of concussions and migraines. Against Oklahoma on Saturday, the backups behind starters Blake Gideon and Kenny Vaccaro are true freshmen Mykkele Thompson and Sheroid Evans, as well as sophomore, Adrian Phillips, who also plays cornerback and nickel back.”

Update (10/6): Randy Riggs, who covers Texas football for the Austin American-Statesman, reported last night that Longhorn defensive backs coach Duane Akina expects Scott to play despite this injury.
