This weekend “might be one of the biggest recruiting weekends of the Bob Stoops era,” The Oklahoman reports.
“Four of the top 12 players in the Rivals 250 — three uncommitted and one committed elsewhere (for now) — are expected to be in Norman for the weekend.
“Seven commitments are also scheduled to be in town, as are several other key recruits.
“’I can't remember anybody bringing in that number of top guys on one weekend,’ local Rivals.com recruiting editor Josh McCuistion said. ‘Texas or Alabama, neither of them have brought in four five-star guys this entire year, much less on a weekend. If nothing else, with all the transfer rumors swirling, it might be a bit of good news for OU.’”
The top players “who are expected to visit this weekend include wide receiver Dorial Green-Beckham of Springfield (Mo.) Hillcrest, defensive end Mario Edwards Jr. of Denton (Texas) Ryan, wide receiver Stefon Diggs of Our Lady of Good Counsel in Olney, Md., and wide receiver Nelson Agholor of Berkely Prep in Tampa, Fla.”
Edwards is committed to Florida State but has kept his recruiting options open.
Some other players OU is targeting who could be in Norman this weekend:
“Junior college running back Marion Grive of Blinn College is one to keep an eye on.
“‘He's a guy that's about 6-1, 210. We're not talking about Roy Finch or even Daniel Brooks (an OU commit),’ McCuistion said. ‘It seems like there's a shift in mindset in what they want to do offensively. I think they'd like to do something where they can have (Blake) Bell on the field but have other threats in the backfield with him.’
“Among the other players who could wind up in the Sooners' camp if things break right are defensive end Kyle Kelley from California, Wagoner defensive back Kevin Peterson and San Diego tight end Taylor McNamara.”
